PURPOSE
Why Coaching Matters?
In business, the best leaders don't need much convincing of the value of a great coach. Same is true of sports stars - and that includes F1 drivers. But coaching isn't just for those that are the best in their field. Nor is it just for poor employees, problem managers or novice race car drivers in need of help.

Coaching is beneficial for every driver regardless of their status. It's an investment that continues to give, delivering value immediately and again over a lifetime.

Simply, coaching enables people get better at difficult skills. High performance driving and more so racing can be pretty complicated.

-
Coaching maximises growth
-
Coaching addresses holistic needs
-
Coaching is the intervention when we are languishing
-
Evidence based coaching puts an expert in our corner
Coaching or Instructing?
I can instruct and I can coach. There's a difference. It depends on the occasion.
Instructing is almost like being at school, the Instructor (teacher) tells the Driver (student) what to do - and the driver does his/her best to comply. There are appropriate circumstances for a bias to instructing. Two easily come to mind. The first is when a novice driver gets behind the wheel. The second is when the Instructor is the passenger and safety is at risk. Brake, BRAKE, BRAKE! for instance. No negotiation here.
Coaching is far more collaborative. The Driver outlines the challenges and personal objectives plus provides feedback as to what's being experienced. My role is to present strategy and skills to be learnt to address those particular issues. It's a two way street: shared vision, open communication, complete honesty, unconditional support.
A Driver faster
